3D SCANNING

3D SCANNING

Having access to the latest laser scanning tools means we have full control over the design/ build process; benchmarking as built against designe date.  In addition we use 3D scanned data to create the highest quality engineering drawings; we can easily reverse engineer or interface accurately with critical parts.  Without a deep knowledge of design engineering it is very easy to misinterpret the results or make important omissions.

Initially brought in-house as a review tool we now share design details to clients and boat builders to fully understand the implications of the decisions we make.  It allows a more collaborative approach with those not immediately inside the design world.  Both us as designers and our clients can experience walking through some of the quite complex spaces we encounter on yachts and can bring out some powerful ideas and solutions together.

COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS

COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS

Through a combination of experience, real life testing  and CFD we can learn more about our current designs and assumptions as well as testing innovation and ideas before going to manufacture.  We can consider things such as the integration of hydrodynamic and aerodynamic forces or make comparison tests.

FEA - Checking Superyacht Custom Carbon Davit Deflection Plot

Finite element analysis (FEA) is the process of simulating the behaviour of a part or assembly under given conditions so that it can be assessed using the finite element method (FEM).  We use FEA to help simulate physical phenomena and thereby reduce the need for physical prototypes... or even worse finding out on the manufactured part.  It also allows us to optimise of components as part of the design process of a project.
